The Grand Tour

We have been to Whanganui twice now for the vintage weekend and scootering with friends. We have stayed at the Grand and enjoyed our time there and out and about exploring Whanganui. It is well priced and clean with a good selection of room types available.

The Grand Hotel was built between 1926 and 1927 it was originally named the Spriggens Hotel, after its well-known Whanganui owner. Originally the hotel had shared bathrooms and communal lounges on each floor.

The Main building remained essentially unchanged until the 1960s when the rooms had an ensuite installed followed by the addition of the “Wing rooms”. Today this historic Hotel which has retained many of the original features from the 1920’s and offers 50 rooms.

For the motorbike or cycle enthusiasts, we have the facility to store the bikes overnight, in our large lock-up garage.

Thornton from the Scooter Sanctuary, has organised this ride as a more social gathering of like minded scooter enthusiasts. Technically its not a rally, just an event to spend more time with each other and ride to surrounding areas or just chill and enjoy the local vintage weekend.

This year riders from Auckland, Whakatane, Napier, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill attended and the event is growing as more scooterists become aware of it.

If you havn’t been to Whanganui, go there and have a look. Better still, ride your scooter and join us.
